Understanding Softpay App credentials

How Softpay app credentials work — one username and password per merchant, shared across all stores and terminals. Covers password resets and what happens after initial setup.

No matter whether a merchant has one or multiple stores, all stores share the same Softpay app (merchant) credentials for logging in to Softpay.

Softpay provides a centralized login system for merchants, ensuring simplicity and efficiency in managing multiple stores under a single merchant account.

  • App credentials are tied to the merchant, not to stores.

  • Once an app is set up (logged in), the credentials are no longer used.

  • A password reset does not affect any previously set up apps, only future logins.

  • It is not possible to create separate logins for stores under the same merchant.

When a new store is created under an existing merchant account, it automatically becomes available in the store selection for that merchant. Importantly, no new onboarding credentials are issued for additional stores under the same merchant account.

Softpay Hierarchy (Merchant → Store → Terminal)

Softpay operates with a three-layer hierarchy: Merchant-Store-Terminal, as shown in the figure below.

After logging in with merchant account credentials, users can select the specific store they wish to manage from the store selection screen. This ensures seamless navigation between multiple stores within the hierarchy.

  • Merchant = the main entity

  • Store = each distinct sales location

  • Terminal = individual Softpay app installations
